Cheryl Petryshyn, Owner

My name is Cheryl and I have been training dogs since 2002 and have a background of positive reinforcement and clicker training methods. Although, I have used many other types of methods and still will if needed, these are the ones I prefer to use first. I have been to many seminars, which include Agility seminars, Rally Obedience seminars, Scent Detection, Flyball, Barn Hunt and behavioral seminars. I love helping owners live happily with their dogs, whether it be a new puppy or an adult dog.

I started out with my first Miniature Pinscher, Java who was born May 10/ 2004. I had trained Java to do most anything, including Rally Obedience (competed to the Versatility and C Stream levels), Agility (competed at the Masters level), all sorts of tricks (has her Expert Trick dog Title), and how to be polite to new people. She was the social butterfly and loves everyone. Java earned 7 Rally O titles, 4 trick dog titles, 5 flyball titles, her Canine Good Neighbor and 23 Agility titles. Java competed to the National level in Agility and placed 2nd in her category at the last Nationals we attended. Java has now crossed to the Rainbow Bridge.

Kona was born June 4/ 2006 and is a full sister to Java, but absolutely nothing like her. Kona was a full of life dog and tried hard to please but got distracted easily. She competed in Rally Obedience (to the Advanced level), Agility (competed to the Masters level) and also loved to do tricks (has her Advanced Trick Dog Title). Kona had to slowly get to know someone before she was willing to be friends. Kona has now crossed to the Rainbow Bridge.

We now share our home with three of our own dogs.

Rift was born October 28/2014 and is a high drive Border Whippet mix with a zest for life. If he has a job he is happy, otherwise he likes to lay on the couch, or on his mat. Rift is now competing in agility, Scent Detection, and Barn Hunt and is training in Rally O. He also has up to his expert trick dog titles and is working towards his Champion. He also works daily on helping his owners take out the garbage and recycling. Always looking for a job to do.

Rift has competed in agility, but we stopped playing after I had a child. He competed to a Masters level. Rift also did some flyball training but it was not something I was wanting to get back into. Rift competes in disc, he has the #1 spot in Saskatchewan for Far Out, getting a total of 294 yards in 3 catches. Rift will play with anyone that will throw him a disc. Rift also has many many trick dog titles. Rift also takes joy in doing scent detection and has competed to the highest level as well as Barn Hunt where he competes at the highest level.

Prism was born July 11th, 2020 and is a high drive Border Whippet mix with a lot of personality. Being a covid dog, she takes time to warm up to new people and is not really into playing with many other dogs. She has been trained for disc and my husband and her hold the #2 spot in SK with 254 yards in Far Out. She also plays with my 5 year old child and has for the past 2 years. They have placed in the top 5 for Juniors, so competing against kids up to the age of 12. Prism also has trick dog titles.

Shock was born April 24th, 2023 and is a high drive Border Aussie Whippet mix and is Rift's son. Shock is already learning disc and competing in it for fun at this time. He is also learning his tricks to get his trick dog title. Shock has a lot of personality and is goofy just like his dad was at this age.

Working with five completely different dogs has helped me realize that there is no sure fire way for all dogs out there. I love helping those around me, whether someone needs help with an issue or just needs to understand how to train the basics. I am committed to helping all owners and dogs by continuing education and professional development by attending several seminars and keeping current on all industry literature.

I am a CTDI (Certified Trick Dog Instructor), a member of the Canadian Association of Pet Dog Trainers (CAPDT), Canadian Association of Rally Obedience (CARO), Sporting Detection Dogs Association (SDDA) , Barn Hunt Association (BHA) and Agility Association of Canada (AAC) as well as many other assocations. I have taken a CARO Judging Seminar by Renee Will in January 2013, Foundation Agility Seminar by Kimberly Anderson in October 2012, and a Distance Handling Seminar by Shirley Ann Redl in September 2012. I have worked with Kiersten Lloyd and Nicki Gurr in Agility. I have also taken many other seminars and webinars in the past 17 years of training.
